Postoperative Considerations in Rhinoplasty

The interventions performed during the operation, duration of surgery , skin and bone type of the patient surely affects the healing process. On the other hand, surgeon’s precise work keeps the swelling and bruises at the minimum level by minimizing the bleeding during the surgery.

After rhinoplasty operations performed by Prof. Dr. After Nazim Cerkes;

Bruises heal almost completely in the 4th or 5th day.

Plastic mold over the nose is removed on the 6th day.

Thin paper patch is adhered to the nose for 3 days.

9 days after surgery, patients may return to their normal life without any bruises and bandages.

Almost no postoperative pain is felt. Dr. Nazim Cerkes do not put plug into the nose. Depending on the amount of the swellings of the soft tissues inside the nose may cause a bit of congestion. For this reason, many of our patients fee like having light flu.

After the surgery should be considered:

• Light red colored liquid and normal amount of blood may come from your nostrils in the first 24-48 hours after surgery.

• It is normal to have swelling in your face and bruises around the eyes in the first. To prevent this it is recommended to lay down in the with your head in a higher level than your body.

• Bruising and swelling will disappear within the first week. Swelling and stiffness in your nose tip will be reduced within a few months. However, in 10-15 days after surgery the operation will not be understood as from your environment and you will be able to return to your social and business life.

• Ice application will start in the hospital after surgery and should continue for 48 hours. However, in some patients, there is no need to apply ice.

• After surgery, a plastic mold will be placed over your nose. Take care not to soak it while you shower. The plastic mold will be removed after surgery in 6 or 7 days , and then you may take a normal shower.

• There may be a silicone mold inside your nose (buffer) and will be removed together with plaster on your nose in the 6th or 7th day after the operation.

• After removing the plastic mold a paper plaster will be put on your nose. You can remove after 3-4 days. After removing the plaster you should clean your nose with warm water and soap at least once every day.

• You can use intranasal sterile cleaning spray given to you, and use the given cream by using a swab.

• Do not worry if any bloody and slimy dried barks come from your nose when cleaning with the spray.

• It is normal to have decrease in the smelling ability In the days following the surgery. It will return to normal within time.

• It is normal to feel blockage in your nose from time to time, swelling in the morning, numbness in the noe tip and dryness inside the nose within the next 3-6 months. Do not worry, all will pass in time.

• If the operat,on is performed in summer you can swim after10 days of the surgery. But be sure to use sunscreen and try to aviod from direct sunlight.

• It is prohibited to use glasses for 4-6 weeks after surgery. You should pay attention to it for the lack of trace and deformation.

• Sports (weight lifting, heavy activity, running) can be perfomed after 4 weeks of the surgery.
