Usage of rib cartilage in revision rhinoplasty operations

burun-revizyon-kaburga-kikirdagiAll interventions during rhinoplasty are performed on the bone and the cartilage tissues. It is impossible to downsize or thin the nose skin. Therefore in order not to disrupt the anatomy of the nose, bone, cartilage and skin tissue should be downsized or enlarged in a balanced way.

Most of the revision operations are due to over downsizing of the nose. Such as downsizing of septal cartilage to correct an arched nose. In such a case, we can see that sagging will occur in the middle of the nose after the swellings are healed. There is another case that tip of the nose drop down with gravity effect due to the over removal of cartilage.

After a successful nose surgery nose should be smooth not only in appearance; but with a hand examination as well.

In case more than enough cartilage is removed or the cartilage is not good for use then using cartilage from ear or rib would be an option.

Enough cartilage taken from the rib is precisely shaped and used for the restructuring the nose.

In some countries surgeons use nose implants (prosthesis) for this operation. Especially in Far East countires with low nose ridge, either nasal implants or nasal septum cartilage taken from cadavers are used. Due that such material often causes incompatibilities, these methods’ usage is decreasing day by day.

Prof. Dr. Cerkes , worldwide accepted expert in nose surgery, is using patient’s own tissues in his operations for more 20 years. Naturally these tissues would never cause any complications and provide lifelong good health for the patient.

While gathering rib cartilage from women, 4-5 cm cut is performed just under the breast and the scar cannot be see from the outside..

In male patients the incicison is performed at the lowest rib’s level.

A very small scar in the body is not considered by most of the patients in order to have a healthy and aesthetic nose by nose surgery performed by using rib cartilage.
